A little solitary

He doesn’t finish all the
food on his plate and is
cautious and solitary and of
a conservative disposition

An explorer that might
benefit from spectacles
always clad in the same
soft brown boots and coat

his manner is modest
and unassuming – simple
lifestyle – a bit of work
restorative sleep and

each evening he’ll roam
up to a mile or so but
not much more away from
the security of home

Everything he does seems
to us measured and slow
and often we ask ourselves
‘where does he go

and how many others
holding out torches
for Tucker the hedgehog
show interested gratitude

for his gently inquisitive
explorations in our near
neighbourhood and his
contented presence just

being there or here
